The highlight of this years Sleaford Water Weekend for many was the Raft Race on Saturday afternoon down on the River Slea. The Jolly Scotchman Pub, who showed up with a giraffe, mis-read the application form and were ready for the 'Giraffe Race'. They also carried water guns and during the race were obviously unsure whether the best tactic was to soak the spectators on the riverbanks and the other competitors or to paddle. | ![]() |

Unfortunately, due partly to their strict training regime of propping up the bar at The Jolly Scotchman, their raft sat very low in the water and kept getting stuck on the bottom, but nevertheless managed a very respectable 'close' third place. The India Garden Restaurant came second with a very spicy raft made with Mango Chutney containers, and entertained us along the way with a tambourine | ![]() |

This years winners are Ruskington Youth Club, with an inspired victory dedicated to Cassandra's Birthday. This proves once again that we will have to run a separate youth race, so as the give the adults a fighting chance. The USS Digby, although a non-finisher, was awarded most entertaining, for duct taping three buckets together and paddling with a dustpan and brush | ![]() |

The Sleaford Water Weekend 2006 was opened by Mr Nadim Aziz from event sponsor The India Garden Restaurant and the beautiful Sam Parker, reigning Miss Lincolnshire 2006. After a few words from Deputy Mayor Jack Collings, we got off to a flying start, quite literally, with a fantastic display from the 'Spirits' dance troupe. Then it was off to the beer tent run by The Red Lion Digby Pub, for some refreshment and to relax with the Johnny Hillard Jazz Band. | ![]() |
| Unfortunately, the brand new Daihatsu Terios 4x4 was returned to Hockmeyer Motors of Sleaford, since nobody managed to roll the 7 winning dice, although hearts were stopped briefly when the highest roll of the weekend came up with five. Thank you to Hockmeyer Motors and our sponsors India Garden, Embers Plumbing & Heating and The Red Lion Digby Pub who have made this free event possible. | ![]() |
